Actually, Monty Python got it right, and it's very nice. ROVANIEMI is trying very hard to be a nice place in the middle of nowhere on the road to the end of Europe & I suspect the work/life balance is good here. I can be sniffy about Santa Park but it makes a lot of people happy and gives a lot of work to locals and brings in much income. I calmed down after the GF and I went to the Arktikum, the museum of Lapland, which had excellent displays on the history of the Laps, the indigenous Sami people, the story of the role of Finland in Ww2 when they appear to have been shafted by everyone , and was one the best museums we've visited. The city, which by a strange quirk is the largest in Europe, was rebuilt after the war having been completely destroyed by a German scorched earth policy, is a very pleasant place.
We restocked at Lidls today as from tomorrow we are heading into the far north and trading posts will be few and far between for the next 2 weeks. I'm looking forward to it immensely, even though we have a couple of days of bad weather forecast, including snow on Thursday.........
